Afternoon Spurs family!
First up we take on Inter at home, in the first-leg of our last-16 clash in the Europa League. It may not be the Champions League, but the tie has got a real glory glory feel to it. It'll be a great night at the Lane, and the fans will be expecting a big performance. The Europa League is also our only chance of silverware this season, and no matter how desperate we are to qualify for next season's Champions League, we can't afford to turn down trophies, especially as they have been so rare in our recent history. AVB is fully focused on Europa League success, and that's why he's continued to pick our best players on Thursday nights. There are some Spurs fans who have disagreed with this policy, but it's only been a couple of Thursdays every now and again, it surely hasn't affected our league form. In fact, a few weeks ago when we didn't have a weekend game thanks to the FA cup, the Thursday night game was crucial to keep the lads playing and maintain our good form.
However, these next 11 days will be a big test. Inter Thursday, Liverpool Sunday, Inter Thursday, Foolham Sunday. Apart from Lloris, who will probably make way for SuperBrad, our team will stay pretty much the same for all four fixtures. In terms of squad rotation and subs, AVB's options have been lessened by injuries. Dembele picked up a nasty looking knee injury on Sunday, and its uncertain whether he'll be fully fit by tomorrow night, although he did take part in training this morning. AVB probably won't risk playing him. Adebayor also went off injured against the goons, and didn't train today. Despite my mixed feelings about that one, it's probably not healthy that Defoe is our only available striker for the time being. Dempsey's out with a calf injury and also didn't train today. It's going to take a huge amount of focus from the lads who play in all four games to get us four good results.
Here's are the players AVB has available for the tomorrow night's game:
Lloris, Friedel, Walker, Naughton, Gallas, Dawson, Caulker, Vertonghen, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Holtby, Livermore, Dembele, Carroll, Parker, Bale, Sigurdsson, Defoe.
Looking ahead to Sunday's clash in Anfield, Hugo Lloris has said, "Liverpool are playing maybe the best football in the Premier League at this moment. They proved that in their last game against Wigan. It will be a very difficult game but very exciting game in Anfield."Here's are the players AVB has available for the tomorrow night's game:
Lloris, Friedel, Walker, Naughton, Gallas, Dawson, Caulker, Vertonghen, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Holtby, Livermore, Dembele, Carroll, Parker, Bale, Sigurdsson, Defoe.
I don't know about the best football in the Premier League, but he's right, it's going to be a hard slog on Sunday. And win, lose or draw in tomorrow night's glory glory tie at the Lane, the focus needs to be straight back on business. Forget about the glory of the Wet Spam and Ars*nal wins, these next four games matter just as much, and in many ways, will be tougher.
Okay, match preview for the Inter game coming later on/tomorrow morning.
If you need something to get you through work today, just think how much more exciting Wednesdays will be next year when Spurs are dominating the Champions League.
